  80. This package contains TC's Personal Data Manager v1.2, which is a
  81. Personal Information Manager (PIM) for Windows 3.1.  This document
  82. contains only a brief description of the package and its features,
  83. along with instructions for its installation.  Quite detailed
  84. documentation is included in the package, but it is in archived form,
  85. and is more easily read after installation.

  87. TC's PDM is distributed as Shareware.  This evaluation version
  88. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  89. You may use it for up to 30 days, without charge (read the help file
  90. topics Shareware, License and Registration for more details).  If you
  91. like the program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation
  92. period, you are required to pay for the program (see ORDER.WRI for
  93. more details).  Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors,

  136. ===== Installation =====================================
  137.  
  138. The installation procedure for TC's Personal Data Manager is quite
  139. simple.  The package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates
  140. the entire process.  You will need about 2 Meg of available disk space
  141. on the hard drive on which you plan to install TC's PDM.
  142.  
  143. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  144. TC's Personal Data Manager.
  145.  
  146.  
  147. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  148.  
  149. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  150.  
  151.    o  Place the diskette labeled "Disk 1" (if more than one disk) in
  152.       the appropriate diskette drive.
  153.  
  154.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  155.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:,
  156.       then from the Windows Program Manager choose Run from the File
  157.       Menu and type A:setup and press Enter.
  158.  
  159.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  160.       The program will ask you for a destination directory, and copy
  161.       TC's Toolbox files to that directory.  If you received TC's
  162.       PDM on multiple diskettes, you will need to insert the
  163.       next disk in the diskette drive when asked to do so.
  164.  
  165.  
  166. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  167.  
  168. If you downloaded TC's PDM from a BBS (or received it in the form
  169. of archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  170. following steps.
  171.  
  172.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  173.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  174.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  175.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  176.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  177.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  178.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  179.       the package.
  180.  
  181.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  182.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  183.       TC's PDM is C:\TEMPDIR, then from the Windows Program Manager
  184.       File Menu choose Run and type "c:\tempdir\setup" and press Enter.
  185.  
  186.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  187.       The program will ask you for a destination directory, and will
  188.       copy the TC's PDM files to that directory.
  189.  
  190. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  191. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed TC's PDM
  192. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  198. file for the program for further information.

  203. ----- Disk Vendors please read --------------------------------------

  205. DISTRIBUTION MEDIA:
  206.  
  207.      The setup files must be on the 1st disk for the setup program to
  208. work.  These files are SETUP.EXE, SETUP.LST, SETUP1.EXE, SETUP1.LST,
  209. VER.DLL, VBRUN300.DLL, and SETUPKIT.DLL.  Program, help and support
  210. files can be on the first disk or other disks.  The setup program will
  211. prompt for another disk to be inserted after it has installed all the
  212. required files it could find on the current disk.  This will continue
  213. until all the files have been installed.  This makes it possible
  214. to distribute the program on any size disks, from 360K on up.
  215.      Most of the files will have the understrike as the last file
  216. extension character indicating that they are compressed.  The setup
  217. program will automatically uncompress these files during installation.
  218.      IMPORTANT NOTE:  Please do not substitute your own installation
  219. program.  The setup program included checks files for the most current
  220. version and will not overwrite a newer version.  This saves installation
  221. time and prevents future compatibility problems.  If you have a special
  222. need to add your own setup routine then contact Specific Applications
  223. Software first and we should be able to work something out.
